Is there a way to see what is keeping these drives from going into idle mode? I'm guessing there is a routine or program that is "holding on" to them. I've tried re-booting, shutting down programs one at a time, unplugging the USB, unplugging the power to the drives one at a time, but nothing has made a difference. I cannot think of any changes I made to cause them to do that. Everything is still working fine, but the hard drives keep spinning 24 hours a day now. Until about a week to 10 days ago, my external hard drives that I use for backup on a powered USB hub would spin down and go idle about 10 minutes or so after using them.
